Synthetic Biology has evolved as a potent approach in the understanding of natural signalling processes. As Richard Feynman has said, “What I cannot create, I do not understand.” Following this paradigm, synthetic approaches have successfully been applied in many different fields.
Signalling processes can be constructed at the transcriptional, translational, post-translational and cellular levels. This page provides an overview of the molecular tools used to engineer signalling phenomena at these levels and illustrates how these tools are used to design complex synthetic signalling networks.
